Zebra’s Head

Day one at Ngorongoro National Park in Tanzania.  At mid day and the sun was beating down on everything, including us, in the safari four wheeler with the top popped up.

Zebra's Head

This group was under my radar specifically for having mature adults with gorgeous rumps.

It’s not obvious from this picture, but these stunningly beautiful creatures—looking like three dimensional special effects screens—were standing still in small groups. They were trying to at least hide their eyes from the harsh sun and kicked up dust from the constant wind.

Even the closest group was too far for the 400mm lens to fill the frame with what I had in mind.  Everyone was getting bored watching bunch of zebras standing around, but I wasn’t.

I realized that the best option with a 400mm lens was to focus on larger groups at a closer distance.  My hope was that if I could get enough of that 3D screen in my frame, I might have something worth while even if I had to crop drastically.

This group was under my radar specifically for having mature adults with gorgeous rumps. I had to wait at for at least two adults to line up side by side with the rest of the group to be in right formation and direction.  I captured random patterns of dozen or so stripped legs while I was waiting for the rump opportunity.

I will revisit the leg shots in more detail and hopefully will have something to share, but I was able to get close enough to what I had in mind with shot.  I think this photo would look much better side by side with other pictures with similar frame format, specially on an entry wall of a home.
