Every evening, I go for long walks and most often our sweet Shadow (Pittie) is with me. Very often I wish I had my camera with me based on plentiful scenes all around the walking path, but I settle for iPhone since it’s her outing of the day too. But fortunately on that day, I had taken my 500mm lens in hopes of capturing what I had in mind for some time now. But for various reasons, I have not been able to put all the “elements” together so to speak, and capture what I had in mind, or at least come close to it.
Every Spring the Rice Grass grows on the banks of the slough all the way up to the edges of walking path. And by Fall, they cover the entire bank walls like a golden blanket swaying back and forth like ocean waves at a distance.
It was getting dark by the time I had turnaround to go home. Late evening rays of early Fall sun was still lighting up few patches of Rice Grass near the top of the path. I thought if I could isolate just few stocks that are lit up in front of the darker stocks in the background, I could capture the “scene” I had in mind.
After few hundred shots of terial and error, I realized that trying to use the autofocus in a very low light and breezy conditions, was a futile effort. So I decided to manually focus some where in the middle of the swaying range on few stocks, and click when they came into focus for a fleeting moment.
When this frame came into focus, it was like a slow motion dance… I savored the scene first, then clicked the shutter before it flew away.
